28 year old Danish singer Ida Corr steps into character and shows the world that she's an accomplished songwriter and a 'Street Diva'.
The proof is the album "StreetDiva", 12 songs, which takes you on a journey into Ida's Urban-inspired and very personal musical universe.
Her debut, "StreetDiva", has been a long time coming (actually 27 years as Ida herself notes). Her family has always been incredibly musical oriented, and she started out drumming at 6, formed her own band at 9, where she sang old Stevie and Aretha songs on the streets of Aarhus.
At 11 she won the Junior Melody Grand Prix with the song "Steal My Heart"! From Ida was 11 to 20 she was in several bands, at 16 she made a living singing for many stars of Aarhus. At 20 Ida moved to Copenhagen, and things really started to happen. Besides being backing singer for danish and international names, Ida appeared regularly as a guest singer on many DJ-based projects. Meanwhile Ida was also invited to appear as choir singer in several TV shows and other glamourous productions, which made Ida a familiar face and of course voice in the public eye.
While Ida was busy with a career most centered on backing other artists, she continued to make her own songs and music. Which got her connected with even more creative musical names, who wanted to help Ida with getting her music out in the world. First and foremost the production company Rocket Ranch but also producer MoTrack aka Christian von Staffeldt had a huge influence on the making of the album.
The style of her debut album is undeniable Urban, but there are other influences as Ida grew up with Blues, Soul, Reggae and Funk. Names like Stevie Wonder, Aratha Franklin, James and Prince. Most important, this is an album that's written straight from heart! The songs are written so they can be played on acoustic guitar, which shows the impressive craftmanship of the songwriter that is Ida.
Ida is not afraid to experiment and take things to the edge, which one will notice the quickly when you hear the songs, from the radiohits "U Make Me Wanna" (with Ataf), and "Make Them Beg" with rap artist Al Agami, the acoustic "King Of Misery" to the melancholic "Lullaby". In between Ida shows different sides of talent - over the top ferociousness in "Hey U", subtlety in "Hangover Time", partymad in "Party", and hilarious madness in "Country Girl" (ever heard C&W mixed with R&B?!!).
Ida has fullfilled her ambitions with this debut album, producing a record which touches the listener, both on an emotional and get-ready-to-party level. Humor is important, as the genre's stereotypes are used in photos and artwork, all done tongue-in-cheek.
But Ida is also the girl who says her prayers every night and wears a lucky charm. She believes in good, represented by love, integrity, karma and respekt - and tries to live up to these values. And with them she pays full attention to her solo career, excellent debutalbum, touring, and performances.
Danish Ida Corr isn't only just an amazing singer, she's also a brilliant songwriter, honest hitmaker and lovely Street Diva.
”Street Diva” is licensed to the American label Tommy Boy for the release of the album in USA.
